There will come a day when each one of us will give an answer to that question.
When Jesus walked this earth, the people around him who listened to his teachings, witnessed his miracles, experienced his healing touch, those who followed him eagerly, his family, friends and even those who opposed him, rejected him, who thought he was the son of the devil- they all had an opinion on who Jesus was.
Jesus himself even asked his disciples that question.
βWhen Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, βWho do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?β So they said, βSome say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.β
He said to them, βBut who do you say that I am?β
Simon Peter answered and said, βYou are the Christ, the Son of the living God.β Matt.16.15 -16 NKJV
C S Lewis said βYou must make your choice: either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend toβ
I personally made the decision in the summer of 1976 to believe that Jesus is Godβs anointed one, Godβs son who came in the flesh and who by his death and resurrection redeemed me and cleansed me from my sins and Godβs judgment and brought me back into relationship with God as my Father and has given me new life, the promise of eternity with God and now lives in me by His Holy Spirit.
I can now boldly say with confidence that I know Jesus. He is my Lord and Saviour. I am a child of God.
Dear reader, who is Jesus to you today?
Jesus asks the same question of you βBut who do you say that I amβ.
I pray that you will not ignore that question, or delay the answer another day, but will sincerely be open and eager to discover the truth about who Jesus is so that you too will have confidence and the revelation, just as Peter did, to declare:
βYou are the Christ, the Son of the living Godβ
