All things new..

So recently I was in Suffolk for a holiday with the camper van and of course my dearly beloved, aka husband, van driver, navigator and chef. To be fair I am really just along to enjoy the ride and provide the occasional fascinating fact hopefully about the places we visit.

We had never been to Suffolk before and on our way through we stopped off in Cambridge, that university seat of high powered learning. I hadn’t realised that some of the colleges in Cambridge were so old having been founded in the 12th century.

There have been incredible discoveries made here- Sir Isaac Newton discovering gravity (you can still see the tree that dropped the apple on his head apparently) and here the double helix of DNA was discovered just to name two.

So naturally this has prompted me to think of discovering new things. If you’ve read this blog before you’ll know I love to discover new things. That why I love reading other blogs. Learning from you all.

The Lord prompted me recently to change the bible verses on my site to the verses from Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know”.

Although the things I currently discover may be new to me but of course they are not original discoveries. Yet!!! Who knows what God has in store for me and us especially when we consider these amazing bible verses and God’s encouragement to ask Him to show us things that we do not know.

How incredible it must be to discover something completely new, to have that Eureka moment – although in this day and age I don’t recommend jumping naked out of a bath and running down the street like Archimedes did shouting Eureka or you’ll probably get arrested.

I believe the bible that says God created all things. He knows all things. He is the fount of all knowledge. I am sure that there are still many new discoveries to be made about this incredible world God has created for us and the universe around us. The natural and the spiritual realm.

I find it amazing that we humans are still discovering new species of animals, insects and plants every year. In June, Discovery magazine listed 7 new animal species discovered so far this year alone.

Scientists continually make new discoveries. You only have to google “new discoveries” and you’ll find an amazing amount of information about the most recent scientific breakthroughs.

If you are interested Time magazine has a list of the top 100 inventions in 2020 – innovations which are designed to change the way we live from a germ trapper (yuk) to a robot suit and a smart hard hat. I’m not sure if it’s the hard hat which is smart or wearing it makes you smart -if only! Some of these innovations may be for the better but some not so.

So what are you and I waiting for….let’s get out there and discover something new today, tomorrow, this week, this month, this year. Let’s ask God what great and mighty things He wants to show us. Let’s discover something we didn’t know yet about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the bible, this creation, even about ourselves – for we are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image.

What we discover may not be an original discovery which will change the world but it will definitely change your world and my world and it could possibly change someone else’s world for good.

May you experience the joy and excitement and wonder of that precious moment of discovery and wonder of the new.

The Lord has been speaking to me recently about starting something new called “5 minutes of Wonder”. I don’t know what that looks like yet or what the Lord wants to do but I’m excited to find out. Watch this space.

Have a blessed discovery my friends.

New shoes or

In my case new wellies!

I love that God speaks to us in the day to day things of life. If we take time to ask & listen then there is usually something to learn from what is going on around us.

Part of my daily routine is to take the dog out. The ground is so muddy at the moment from all the rain that wellies are my usual footwear.

I was halfway across the park the other day when I suddenly noticed or rather felt that something was wrong. My foot was getting wet. Weird I thought as I had only just been given these “new” wellies.

I looked down to see a large hole in the side of my welly. I looked closer and realised that I was actually wearing my “old” pair. I had grabbed them quickly on the way out the door and not realised that I had picked up the wrong ones. I now had no option but to walk all the way round the park with a very wet foot. The dog wasn’t bothered. He just wanted his walk. I was committed.

God has been speaking to me recently about new things & preparation. So what was he saying about this? Everything is a learning opportunity 😀. As I thought about it I felt God say that you have to get rid of the old things otherwise you are in danger of unwittingly picking them up again. The old has to go and make way for the new. If I had thrown my old wellies away then I wouldn’t have made the same mistake. Goodness knows why I had kept them. They were no use.

There are “old” things in my life that I believe God wants me to get rid of so that I am ready for the new. I may be hanging on to things which are hindering me moving into the new things that God has for me. I know God in his grace & love will reveal it. He will prepare me and equip me for the good works He has ready for me to do.

The Doldrums-hope to move on

The Doldrums

For anyone who may be experiencing a feeling that they are stuck in the doldrums at the moment – where they are seeing a lack of activity,  movement or progress in their lives- a feeling of being  stuck in the same place.    Do not despair, there is hope for you and breakthrough awaits.

In some instances, God’s hand has kept you in that place until His perfect timing and He has worked in you and prepared you so that you are ready for the suddenlies – the wind of God’s Spirit will come suddenly and you will see great acceleration and growth.

There will be a sudden shift.  Some people have been waiting for the wind -God’s wind and a fresh breath of the Spirit of God to propel them forward to where they need to be.

I pray that such people will be stirred up in hope and experience a fresh impetus to push forward in God and let Him breathe new life again into their vision.

For those who have lost hope and feel stuck in the Doldrums, I pray that such people will experience new zeal (great energy and enthusiasm for something you feel strongly about) which will replace apathy (feeling of not being interested or enthusiastic) and complacency (a feeling of being satisfied with yourself or with a situation so you do not feel any change is necessary) and despair (feeling that all hope lost) which can hinder progress and moving forward.

That all will reject apathy & complacency, throw off the shroud of apathy & complacency & put on zeal instead.   That there will be an exchange of  the spirit of heaviness (Isaiah 61:3) for the garment of Praise.

If you find yourself thinking “what is the point” then that could be an indication that you are stuck in the Doldrums.

Be careful that unbelief & fear has not set in and trapped you.   Unbelief will need to be dealt with in prayer and repentance.

James 5 V 16 – The effective, fervent (very strong feelings about) prayer of a righteous man avails much.    Seek God in this season. Be led by the Spirit into all He has for you. Amen 🙏

A New Mind-set

God has been impressing upon me that you cannot put new ideas into old mind-sets.   We cannot get new results with old behaviours.

New wine needs new wineskins.

If we are stuck in old patterns of behaviours and have become rigid in our thinking, then I sense that we are going to miss what God is doing by His Holy Spirit in this new season.

God wants us to be open to new things in Him so He can lead us along new paths.

When we came to Jesus Christ we became new creations in him – ” Corinthians 5 17- “Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; old things have passed away, behold all things have become new.”     We took on the mind of Christ.

Since that day of new birth and new mind-set in Christ Jesus,  we may have developed a different mind-set through being conformed to the culture of our times, religious thinking, disappointments, fear etc.    Attitudes which give us a wrong mind-set.

I pray the Holy Spirit will reveal if this is the case and help us change our mind-set.

Lord Jesus, reveal by your Holy Spirit any mind-set in me that is not of you and help me to take captive my thoughts and submit them to you.

Please come and demolish any mind-sets which I have which are not of you and will hinder the work of your Holy Spirit through me for your glory.

Repent – Change our thinking

Replace – “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds”.  Romans 12:2

Relax – let God’s Holy Spirit lead the way. Amen. Blessings to you this day.

This is the way walk in it..

Isaiah 30: 21 says “Your ears shall hear a word behind you saying “This is the way walk in it”. Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left”.

If you are looking for direction in your life and seeking the path that God wants you to take or a new door is opening up to you then take encouragement from the promise in these verses.   God will direct your way.

This is a season for stepping into the new things of God.  It may be paths that you or no-one else has travelled before, areas which you have never ventured into, things you or nobody else has ever done but take comfort that God will make it clear that you are on the right path.

God will direct you to move forward into new things.    Don’t look back at the old or try to do things in the same way but with boldness step into the new.

This is a season for God to show you how to do things in a different way.    Don’t worry or be anxious that you don’t know what’s up ahead – trust God.    If you are walking where God wants you to walk then you are going in the right direction.

You may face discouragement – people may think you are crazy even to attempt something new but God will give you the vision and you will hear His still small voice saying “This is the way walk in it”.    You will know it is God speaking to you.

I encourage you to be bold in faith today as you hear Him speak to you.   Take hold of the opportunity which God is bringing your way.

I sense this may be a season for some that God will completely turn things on their head.  God will flip things upside down but you will emerge unscathed.    Allow God to be in the driving seat.

I pray God will increase your vision in these days.  To stir in you a new vision, a bigger vision and to break new ground for Him.   To see new things and create new opportunities for the gospel to be preached and people to be reached with the good news of Jesus Christ.
