Seeing but not seeing..seeing the changes (pt 2)

We can sometimes fall into a trap of seeing what we expect to see.

Notice anything different”…these are 3 words spoken by my husband which are guaranteed to strike panic in my heart.

It clearly means “I’ve changed something and you haven’t noticed yet!”

The unspoken inference:

Why haven’t you noticed, it’s so obvious

Often, we become so used to seeing what we expect to see that we do not notice change.

Our brains deceive our eyes and we see what we expect to see.

As a lawyer, I mark up and amend so many documents, so many times a day that a condition called “word blindness” can occur.

I start to read what I expect to see rather than what is actually written..I’ve gone word blind.

At that point I need to go and do something else, re-set my brain and then come back with fresh eyes.

Have we become blind to change especially those subtle and small changes.

We still see what we expect to see rather than what is there!

Our brains are getting in the way of our eyes.

God wants us to see what is really there (the reality) not what we expect to be there (can be an illusion).

Have our prayers been answered but we have not seen the change because the answer is not what we expected it to look like.

For some of us the season has changed but we have not noticed the change of season –We are not in the same season any more.

We are in a new season.

We need to understand and see the seasonal change.

The old has gone – if we are still doing things in the same way or hankering after the old ways…then we may have to let some things go and change our ways of doing things.

What is right for the new season.

God open our eyes and help us to see the changes around us.

What or who has changed!

What has changed in people – we look at people and expect them to be the same – but have they changed.

Lord help us to see the change/growth in them – the fruit of discipleship and allow them to grow into the places you have for them.

Lord help us to see the potential in them – the promise in them.

To see people as you see them today and in the future.

People of promise.

Father God open our eyes and hearts today and remove our blindness so we can see what has changed but has gone unnoticed.

To see from the eagles’ perspective, you have to wait for the wind to lift you up.

Nicola, do you remember commenting on this back in May of 2025?

    Wait for the Wind

As I was in prayer, the morning of  06/03/2025, the song, ” Strength Will Rise AsWe Wait Upon the Lord,” kept going through my mind so I went to

Isaiah 40:29-31 He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the LORD
    Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

The part dealing with eagles’ wings is percolating in my spirit.

Many Christians who believe that they are eagles are nothing more than chickens. When I say chickens, I am not necessarily referring to being fearful. Chickens spend their day scratching in the dirt, seeing what they can dig up. Many Christians, in like manner, spend their time seeing what dirt they can find on their fellow brothers and sisters.  Chickens can not fly to great heights, nor can they sustain being airborne for any length of time because, in order to do so, they would need to flap their wings continuously. If a chicken flies up to the roof of a garage, it is an accomplishment. Many Christians, in like manner, flap their wings furiously using their own power, and if they make it to a garage roof so they can look down, they believe that they’ve had a spiritual experience.  The eagle, on the other hand, will stay perched on a cliff or tree for days until the wind is right and then utilize the wind to carry it to great heights.

We, as believers, can try to attain to greater heights in our own strength, or we, like the eagle, can wait patiently, for the wind of the Holy Spirit to lift us where He can bring us to heights we could  never reach on our own

Just as ‘word blindness’ makes reading difficult, it easy to be led astray in life.

It is indeed. Keeping on that narrow path.

Great post 😎👏 “Word blindness” is a great explanation for how we don’t adapt to new seasons.

I think we even do this with ourselves. We cannot see the slow incremental change from glory to glory. Thank God is working in us.
