We can sometimes fall into a trap of seeing what we expect to see.
“Notice anything different”…these are 3 words spoken by my husband which are guaranteed to strike panic in my heart.
It clearly means “I’ve changed something and you haven’t noticed yet!”
The unspoken inference:
“Why haven’t you noticed, it’s so obvious”
Often, we become so used to seeing what we expect to see that we do not notice change.
Our brains deceive our eyes and we see what we expect to see.
As a lawyer, I mark up and amend so many documents, so many times a day that a condition called “word blindness” can occur.
I start to read what I expect to see rather than what is actually written..I’ve gone word blind.
At that point I need to go and do something else, re-set my brain and then come back with fresh eyes.
Have we become blind to change especially those subtle and small changes.
We still see what we expect to see rather than what is there!
Our brains are getting in the way of our eyes.
God wants us to see what is really there (the reality) not what we expect to be there (can be an illusion).
Have our prayers been answered but we have not seen the change because the answer is not what we expected it to look like.
For some of us the season has changed but we have not noticed the change of season –We are not in the same season any more.
We are in a new season.
We need to understand and see the seasonal change.
The old has gone – if we are still doing things in the same way or hankering after the old ways…then we may have to let some things go and change our ways of doing things.
What is right for the new season.
God open our eyes and help us to see the changes around us.
What or who has changed!
What has changed in people – we look at people and expect them to be the same – but have they changed.
Lord help us to see the change/growth in them – the fruit of discipleship and allow them to grow into the places you have for them.
Lord help us to see the potential in them – the promise in them.
To see people as you see them today and in the future.
People of promise.
Father God open our eyes and hearts today and remove our blindness so we can see what has changed but has gone unnoticed.
