The right tool…

I’m not much of a DIY enthusiast or particularly blessed with practical skills, but I do know that whatever project you are going to undertake you need the right tools for the job.

At conference last week our speaker, Chrissie Remsberg powerfully reminded us that the church, that is you and me, are the tool used by the Holy Spirit for bringing in the harvest.

There is still a plentiful harvest out there of people who don’t know Jesus and the good news and are desperately in need.

He (Jesus) told them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
Luke.10.2 NIVUK

Chrissie asked us a simple question: What shaped tool does the Holy Spirit want us to be to bring in the harvest where we are planted and that we are trying to reach?

What does our harvest field look like?

Farmers use different tools to harvest different crops and fruits. They don’t use the same tool.

Sometimes you need a combine harvester and sometimes it’s hand picking which is required so the fruit is not spoiled.

Too often we may have used tools which have beaten the harvest rather than gathered it in.

Chrissy reminded us that we have been chosen to partner with God in bringing in the harvest.

The church was birthed in the power and life of the Holy Spirit and we are filled with the power of the Holy Spirit to be witnesses of Jesus and the transforming power of His salvation.

May we be shaped by and used by the Holy Spirit to bring in the harvest.

The church, that’s you and I, as believers in Christ are a tool for harvest.

Praise God that in His infinite wisdom God has chosen us in Christ Jesus to be witnesses for His Kingdom and carriers of the good news which is life giving and transforming.

The church is not weak, it is indestructible.

Jesus said

on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”Matt.16.18 NIVUK

Amen

Such a good word. Thank you Nicola. Each tool has a role. To ponder on what kind of tool God wants me to be and also made me think about being content with how He wants to use me.

Yes we are all needed in the body of Christ and all have a part to play. God knows how to use each one of us in the best way. Bless you Manu.

Great post Nicola 👍 On reflection our Father God has many tools at His disposal to sow and harvest His harvest of souls. I think though that He prefers the personal touch when it comes to souls of the lost. Another thought about tools is their effectiveness is tied to their condition; a blunt or rusty lawnmower is of little use. We need to keep ourselves ready to serve, by being well sharpened, and oiled in His Word and Spirit. God bless you today sister 🙏

That is spot on Alan. A dull tool is no use at all. I can see a great Alan post on such a theme 😊

Your speaker made a brilliant point, Nicola. God uses different tools to bring in His harvest. Growing up as a Southern Baptist (conservative evangelical), it seemed our only gospel gathering tools were a broom, dust pan, and bin. We were called to go out and “sweep the streets”—telling everyone about the saving power of Jesus. However, there wasn’t much emphasis put on feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, or doing similar types of social ministry to demonstrate God’s love to the world. All gospel harvest tools are needed!
    Great post!
By the way, I’m not particularly handy, either. My best hope is to earn enough £ to pay others for their expertise.

You’re so right David we need to demonstrate God’s love too otherwise we are just those clanging cymbals that Paul mentions. Not heard of that go “sweep the streets” before. It’s boldness though in sharing the message but as you say all gospel tools are needed. Have a great day.

“Sweep the streets “ is my own hastily derived analogy to describe blanket personal evangelism, that often involves little relationship building with those we seek to win.
