A 9th Hour Experience..

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
Matthew 27.46 NKJV

In the Christian life, as in life, I think most, if not all of us, have had or will have a painful 9th hour experience.

Why God? – That is the desperate cry of our heart at such times.

Life has taken an unexpected turn and we don’t understand why.

It could be the loss of a loved one, a broken marriage, an illness, financial problems, a serious emotional hurt. Whatever it is, we will identify with that desperate cry…Why God?

It’s incredibly tough. Holding on to faith and hope that, notwithstanding our feelings or current circumstances, God is there and we are not abandoned. The morning will come again. Imperfection has to fall away and we hold fast to the Lord Jesus- His is our Perfection.

Can we prepare ourselves and strengthen ourselves in God for such a 9th hour experience.

Before the Cross, Jesus had already had his battle in the Garden of Gethsemane – is this why he had the victory of the Cross. Is this why He could endure the Cross. He had already surrendered everything to God. Not My will but Yours be done. Love and obedience in action. God knew the bigger picture.

We can hold on trusting in the promises of God. Knowing God loves us. Knowing that all things can work together for good through God.

It might be the 9th hour now but your Sunday is coming.

This faith in God will take us through the fire and not out of it.

Don’t give up but persevere. Hold on fast. Look up.

Sunday and victory is coming.

Bless you my friends. If you are in a 9th hour experience today then I pray that God strengthens you, upholds you and encourages you in your faith today. Hold on.

    Amen!

A minister once reminded me that, as we were going in to the Christmas season of services, we celebrate Christmas while also knowing that Easter is coming. Because Christmas may have been a beginning, but at Easter God had the final word.

This is a valuable post Nicola; I think it is always healthy to be reminded of our past 9th hour occasions, where we experienced the comfort and blessing of God. Your post reminds me of a particular 9th hour relating to the care of my mother years ago where there was no help coming. On reflection I look back and see how God came through and provided miraculously, encouraging the whole family. Isn’t our Father God amazing?! 😁🙌
