The Invitation – Pass it on

The Holy Spirit brought these words to my remembrance this morning. “The Invitation – Pass it on”. I recalled those words as being the title to a post I had written some years ago. I searched my archives and eventually I found it. It was 4 years ago that I had written these words in November 2018.

I read the post again. The Lord is encouraging me as His disciple to issue the invitation to “Come and see” Jesus. Those words “Come and See” have also been on my heart this week. I was reminded in the gospel of John that early in His ministry Jesus gave an invitation to his first disciples to “Come and See” and then they tell others they have found the Messiah. They pass on the invitation to “Come and See”.

Jesus walked the talk. Jesus demonstrated who He was 24/7 through what He said and what He did. He showed that He was God made flesh. The Messiah. The Saviour of the World. Miracle Worker. The disciples believed and then accepted Jesus’ invitation to “Come and follow”.

The first step was that invitation to “Come and See”.

Jesus is alive and working in His body today through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. His body (us) is alive. We don’t invite people to come to experience a “church service” but to come and see Jesus at work in and through us, His followers. It’s not just about Sundays but that invitation to “Come and See” Jesus’ followers worshipping together and hearing the preaching can be the first step.

We are not inviting people to come and see “Church” but to come and see Jesus in His church. He is to be glorified in His church.

Come and See, Come and See. Come and see for yourself. Jesus is the Saviour of the World.

Here is my previous post.

The words of Isaiah 55 remind us of God’s invitation to abundant life. Jesus issues this invitation to all – regardless of race, gender, creed or colour – everyone is welcome.

Jesus calls people to come to Him – everyone who is weary, thirsty or hungry – only He can satisfy and give us true life in all its fullness and the promise of eternal life.

I attended Encounter at my friend’s church last night. Their mission statement is simple -to help people find Jesus and follow Him.

An invitation to church or a special service can be one way to help someone you know discover Jesus as Saviour for themselves. It is providing an opportunity for someone to meet and see Jesus – perhaps for the first ever time.

Christmas is just around the corner and we have the opportunity to invite people to a variety of events.

Jesus told a parable about people who were invited to a wedding feast but refused to come – they made lots of different excuses.

People will always have the choice whether to accept the invitation or not – that is up to them, but we should not give up or be discouraged from issuing the invite because it gets refused – Jesus isn’t.

Jesus told the disciples to shake the dust from their feet and move on when their message was not welcomed at places. Perhaps we need to shake off some past disappointments and defeatist mind sets and start sending out those invitations. I know I do.

There will come a time when it will be too late to issue the invites but we can encourage others to “seek Him while He can be found“. Isaiah 55 v 6.

Who can you invite today to find Jesus?

Who can we invite today to come and see Jesus. They will see Jesus in us, His body of believers.

Have a blessed day my friends.

  1. Yes! Christmas is one of the best ways to introduce folk to Jesus for sure. Incidentally your title “Pass it On” reminded me of an old Bryn Haworth song from the 80s about sharing the Gospel. But the words that really hit me were “come and see Jesus”…that is direct to the main point! Thank you Nicola, God bless you and your family.
