Counting our blessings

I woke up this morning with these words in my thoughts:

Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!

Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:

Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things,

So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Psalm 103:1-5

The Lord was reminding me, before I start my day, that I am indeed blessed in Him and to remember all that He has done for me.

We have the unmerited favour and blessing of God because of Jesus.

God is faithful. He is a good, good God and Our Father in Heaven who cares for each one of us.

The Lord knows what today will bring for each one of us. I think this is necessary preparation for my day ahead and I hope it will help you too especially when many of us are going through very difficult times.

There is an old hymn that says:

“When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God hath done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.

When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold.
Count your many blessings, money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven, nor your Lord on high.

So amid the conflict, whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

Be blessed today in His mighty name. Amen 🙏
