Just Say the Word

Jesus had an interesting encounter with a Roman soldier, in Matthew (8:5-13) which left Him seemingly surprised.

In many ways it was just another day for Him, as another person who had heard of his healing the sick came forward asking for that very healing. Except that on this occasion Jesus is described as “being amazed”.

So, what made this occasion different from the other times people asked him for healing?

Jesus was simply amazed by the Soldier’s faith!

He said, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with so great a faith. I tell you that many will come from east and west to share the banquet with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

It’s not hard to understand why Jesus responded as He did, when you read the soldier’s words, “I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.”

God spoke the Earth into being. He only has to speak and things happen

So, with that in mind, let us pray to God with the knowledge that He only has to say the word…

Excellent post! Given our current culture, I pray all Christians live as example faith that we ‘amaze’ Jesus (Mt. 8:10).
