Seeing but not seeing..remove the veil of over familiarity..

“seeing but not seeing” were words that the Lord laid on my heart last year. There are seven prayer points I will share in a series of posts. The first is about removing the veil of overfamiliarity which hinders us from seeing clearly.

Familiarity breeds Contempt 

We can become too accustomed to what we see and have lost the sense of awe and wonder.

The incredible has become commonplace to us.

When we are too familiar with something we fail to appreciate it….we become de-sensitised to its beauty or impact.

We can then forget to be thankful because we fail to appreciate it and recognise God’s blessings.

An attitude of gratitude is key to seeing clearly.

Let us prayerfully consider these questions:

What or Who are we taking for granted.

What or Who has lost its impact on us.

We need to look intently again with Fresh Eyes at what has become common place to us.

What has become too familiar to us so that we now treat it with contempt even though that is not our intention.

Has the miracle and wonder of our salvation and our relationship with God become too familiar.

Do we need fresh eyes when we look at the Cross of Jesus Christ;

Or at the Communion table;

Or when we see God moving in and amongst us by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Have we lost the sense of awe and wonder at what God has done for each one of us.

Through faith in Christ Jesus we are born again, alive in Him, filled with God’s Spirit, restored in relationship with God and can now come into God’s very presence – an eternal relationship with God. It’s miraculous.

Do we need a re-set to see how we first saw in the beginning – when faith was new to us.

Let us ask God to help us look at these things He reveals to our hearts as though it was the first time we ever saw them.

Let us remove the veil of overfamiliarity and look intently again with fresh eyes.

What is the Lord showing us today that we are taking for granted and no longer appreciate its true worth and have become de-sensitised towards.

What is the Lord asking us to see again with fresh eyes as though for the very first time.

I once was blind but now I see..the words of that great hymn can stir our hearts today.
