La Belle France..

Morning my lovely readers and fellow bloggers. I am away at the moment on our annual holiday in France.

I’m currently sitting in a camping field, drinking tea (can’t miss my morning cuppa) looking at the view and it’s very peaceful.

Our little home from home

I’ll not be posting my usual blogs whilst away but will share a few photos and stories from our holidays.

We are currently in an area of France on the coast very near to Calais. We came across on the Shuttle train..it took just 30 minutes from Ashford Kent to cross the Channel and we were in France. The engineering of the channel tunnel is incredible..I was trying not to think that I was travelling under the English Channel. All that sea above us as we hurtled along on a train.

Most UK travellers usually don’t stay around to explore this area as it’s an entry point to push on to some of the more well known French resorts further South.

We are in no rush so decided to follow the coastal road along this Opal Coast. It’s like a mirror image of the white cliffs of Dover on this side of the Channel. A beautiful stretch of coastline.

This is the area that the Germans thought would be the invasion target for the English and US forces in WW2 rather than the surprise landing down the coast in Normandy on the Normandy beaches so they built the Atlantic Wall a series of large defences with these huge guns that could fire 86 KM to repel any attacks from Britain. There are a series of watchtowers and gun placements along along the cliffs giving them a clear view. From the Caps you can see over to the English Coast on a clear day. So tantalising close and yet so far.

One of the gun placements now a museum
Cap look out spot

One of the other joys of this area is the seafood which I love especially moule frites ( Mussels and fries). Yesterday I went down to the beach early for a walk and the locals were collecting mussels. One of them told me they would be cooked simply in some Pernod.

Sunset over the sands

We are off the Le Touquet today..Little Paris by the sea. It’s a very unique French seaside resort with thatched villas and a large promenade so I will promenade along the promenade….
