The floating gate..

Psalm 24 encourages us to open the gate and let the King of Glory, Jesus, come in.

The One who is strong and mighty and mighty in battle.

City gates have historically been important places of influence and decision making.

In Israel, the elders gathered at the gates of the city to discuss and make decisions.

City Gates were opened to allow access or shut to refuse entry for protection and safety. Whoever entered through the gate brought their influence with them.

We all have gateways into our lives and minds.

Every day we make decisions to permit or refuse things to operate in our lives and indwell our thoughts and influence us whether for good or bad.

There are gateways into my home, my family, my work place, my town, my region and I want them to be opened for Jesus Christ to be invited in and His influence and closed to bad and evil influences.

Not just a little bit open for Jesus either but flung wide open and welcoming Him in.

Whatever our current circumstances let us encourage each other to swing wide the gate and let the King of Glory come into our situations whatever they are and invite Jesus into wherever He needs to be.

We can trust Jesus to help us overcome and strengthen us and bring us into freedom.

So what does a floating gate have to do with this you may well ask.

Some years ago, the local churches in our area united in prayer for a season as God led us to pray at various gateways within our town.

One evening, we stood on a bridge over the river which flows into and through our town.   As we prayed, one of our group felt that we should all join hands and sing the words of the song “Swing wide the gate and let the King Come in” which is based on the verses in Psalm 24 above and then the two people in the middle of the line would break hands and walk apart as a prophetic sign that we were opening the gate over our town to the Lord.

As we sang looking over the river a large wooden gate floated right underneath the bridge at the exact moment we moved apart.

We couldn’t believe our eyes at the time.    The fact that a whole gate was floating down the river and that it passed just at that exact time we broke apart we believe was a heavenly sign from God.  Who else would have been able to provide a gate taken off its hinges at that exact timing.

We believe God heard our prayers for our town and was encouraging us to believe that change will come. We may not see it straight away but we will patiently wait and trust to see hearts opened to receive Jesus and the river of God’s presence.

Nothing is impossible to God. Amen 🙏

The time is hear to open wide the gates of our hearts for the KING OF GLORY to come in. The opening is our part the coming in His part and both things need to happen for the power of God to be released in our communities. It starts with us.

What a thoughtful post Nicola – thank you sister! The symbolic nature of gates is indeed important; I must confess I have not thought of it enough. I was reminded of a gate leaving our village when I was a child, which opened the way to country path leading to the woods above our village – it was called the White Gate. God bless you and your family today sister 🙏
