Rest and Replenish…

This week I have been thinking about Rest and intentionally making time in my life for rest and that’s not just when I’m asleep.

As my friend wisely says we are human beings not human doings but rarely do we take time just to be.

God shows us through the bible a model of work and rest for all of creation.

When we rest something happens to us in terms of restoring and replenishing.

Replenish” is an encouragement about something that we all need a bit of …replenishing.

Replenish…what a satisfying word just in itself.

When I say the word “Replenish” it has a positive influence on me.

Try it for yourself…It’s a good word.

Replenish is defined as:

1. To fill something back up again;

2. To restore something (stock or supply) to its former condition;

3. To make full or complete again by supplying what has been used up or is lacking;

4. To put fresh fuel on a fire; and

5. To inspire or nourish.

A similar expression would be “top up”.

Plein in French means full. In Latin the word is “Plenus”.

There is a sense then that what was once full (plein) has been depleted and needs to be replenished.

Does this speak to you because it speaks to me.

I know areas of my life and in me that are depleted/used up and need to be replenished.

Stocks are low.

I also know when I need some fresh fuel on my fire to keep me burning as a light for the Lord.

I also know what or who inspires and nourishes me and where to turn in times of need.

He is my daily bread and source of life itself..Jesus.

Do you need a top up today my friend?

Here is a promise from the Lord for us all that we can rest in today:

For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.” Jeremiah 31:25

    Hi Nicola! Finally found your discussion of human being vs human doing. Very nice. I’m inspired to write something about it. Mentioned it in my homilies this Sunday. Thank you!

    Amen, Nicola. A person’s spirit and soul needs rest—just like their physical body does. I’m reminded of Jesus’ words to His disciples when he told them they needed to go to a quiet place and rest.
    🙏May God replenish your spirit, soul, and body during this time of restoration. Amen!

    Yes! I am learning the law of replenishing. For so long, I have practiced the schedule of pushing through on fumes. Especially as I age, I am finding this way of living very unproductive. So I am learning to rest and replenish when my stocks get low.

      Me too. It’s taking some time but I’m getting there I think.

        For me choosing this new path is fraught with both joy and guilt.
