The Open Door…

For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.”
1Corinthians 16.9 NKJV

This verse really caught my attention in my Bible readings this week. I have been thinking about it a lot, especially since yesterday when I received a message about a potential door that has opened for expansion.

If you read my blog, you will know that the Lord has been speaking to me about patience and I have recently posted some thoughts along those lines.

In prayer over the years, I have made and heard many prayers from people asking God to open a door for them in ministry or other areas of life so that they can know His will.

If there is opposition after the door is opened, then perhaps we could think we have made a mistake.

It may be in our mindset that if God opens the door, the way ahead will be easy. We will sail along without any problems or difficulties or perhaps it is just me who thinks this way?

These words of Paul encourage and remind me that there may be many who will be against us progressing through the door God opens for us.

It’s the reality check I probably need to hear.

Any such opposition is perhaps the sign that we are in the very centre of God’s Will for us.

I am reminded that the gospel message and the Christian life are at odds with the world we live in.

There will be those that will try to stop us proclaiming the good news of Jesus but again, I am encouraged by these verses.

Then I will put the key of the house of David on his shoulder; When he opens, no one will shut, When he shuts, no one will open.” Isaiah 22.22

These verses speak of Jesus who has been given all authority. When He opens a door it remains open and no adversary can shut it.

Be encouraged that when God opens a door for you it will stay open until He closes it.

Any opposition you face will not overcome you but through God’s strength, His love, His grace and His power you will accomplish the good works set out for you.

Have a blessed day my friends. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Your words are thought provoking and true, Nicola. It’s so easy to say that God answered my prayer when the answer is something I define as good. Yet the difficult or disappointing situations are also God’s answer to prayer, though we don’t like to define them as an answer because it’s not what we wanted. God refines us in the fire and that is really the best answer for us, though it doesn’t feel that way. It’s a matter of trust and growth for me as I walk through those open doors knowing that God will take care of me and teach me in the trials that are sure to come.

I used to think like that too but with some experience have found that opposition does come and it helps us to keep relying on the Lord to keep fulfilling what He has called us to.

Yes good advice Manu. Relying on the Lord in such times rather than ourselves. Have a blessed day.

Thank you for this timely and encouraging message, Nicola. The passage about Paul in Ephesus is intriguing. He speaks about the opening for effective ministry, but then admits there are many trying to stop him. Praise God, Jesus is a doorman who cannot be deterred! Ephesians 2:10 comes to mind:
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

The world needs more Christian attorneys, Nicola, and a British barrister who knows both man’s laws and God’s can be a double blessing. 🤗🤗

God speed, and God Bless, sister!

Thank you for sharing this post today Nicola. As I look back on my life I see many times when I met opposition in serving God, sometimes even from within the church. Your writing reminded me of the story of Nehemiah and those who opposed him, but God was in the work and it could not be stopped! May our Father God continue to guide and bless you through whatever door He opens for you sister 🙏

Thanks for the reminder about Nehemiah. Interestingly we have just finished a series in our church on Nehemiah! 😊
