Being Intentional…

This was the phrase the Lord spoke to my heart this week..Be intentional..

I need guidance on a particular issue and in my prayer to God these were the words that came to me “be intentional” and “keep pressing in”.

I think I know what it means to be intentional about something but these are some definitions.

being purposeful and mindful in your actions, and making choices that align with your values and goals

making deliberate choices to reflect what is most important to us

everything you do is done with a clear purpose and focus. When you become intentional, you focus your time and energy on your strengths, and the good things in your life, and don’t let fear hold you back.”

Jesus was intentional in doing God’s Will. He knew His purpose and was focused on being obedient to His Father’s plan. Each day we know from the gospels Jesus prayed and spent time in prayer discerning God’s Will.

There is a verse in John’s gospel:

Jesus gave them this answer: ‘Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.
John 5.19 NIVUK

Then I read a post from Bridget at her site (link here) Mays’ blessings and reminders who said”

I’m finding that when we are intentional about tuning into God’s presence in our lives, it helps open our eyes to His goodness

That was greatly encouraging to me thanks Bridget. Her words encouraged me that God is calling me to be more intentional in seeking Him for His guidance on this particular issue and it is only in intentionally making time reading His Word, praying and being in His presence that I will find His Will.

Then to really reinforce this message to me I read Alan’s post today (link here) Psalm 119 who writes “in his afflictions David reads the word and pleads with God in prayer, that he may be delivered. This is the faithful action of the child of God, rather than whinging aimlessly in the wind”.

It was those words “rather than whinging aimlessly in the wind” that really struck home.

I don’t want to be aimlessly trying to work out what to do. I am going to be purposeful in pursuing God in this time. Pushing in and persevering as God is encouraging me to do.

I hope this might be an encouragement to you today if you are in a similar situation. Be intentional and press in. Bless you today my friends.

A car needs to be in motion, intentionality, in order for it to be steered.

It’s uplifting how the Holy Spirit spoke something to you, and said essentially the same thing to at least two other believer bloggers!
Sadly, intentionally is a missing key ingredient in far too many lives today—Christian ones too.
I am challenged to find the best use of my time, over the summer holiday from school. Your post reminds me just how intentional Jesus was in his day-to-day walk with God. I want to be the same way. Thank you, Nicola, for another thoughtful, and thought provoking, post. God Bless!
