Never run dry….

These beautiful old drinking troughs in Derbyshire were built to collect the fresh spring water for the nearby village. The men and women would collect it daily and even sell the water for a penny a bucket.

The spring feeding these troughs has never been known to run dry

The first 2 troughs which collected the spring water were clear but the furthest ones from the source were filled with weeds.

Even the dog knew which trough was the best water

We keep pure and fresh in our thoughts and habits by staying close to our saviour, Jesus and staying in and being obedient to God’s Word. The more we stray, the weeds in our lives start to choke out Godly purity.

The last trough filled with weeds

There are things in my life that start to choke the Word of God and I’m reminded that I need to do some regular pruning of my unGodly habits and behaviours.

Thankfully, God’s grace and mercies are fresh every day and His love draws me with those everlasting chords back to the living water, Jesus Christ. It’s a pure source that will never run dry.

Amen, the Holy Spirit draws us back to God and godliness. I know I’m drinking out of the weedy trough, when I realize I’d rather mindlessly watch YouTube videos than pray or meditate on scripture. Thank God for His reminders to get back to the clear water.
