I am excited to share some upcoming posts in this season of Lent about encounters people had with Jesus and how those encounters impacted them.
The gospels are full of stories of people meeting Jesus…all sorts of different people..rich,poor,educated,religious leaders, foreigners, the sick and dying, the outcasts, prisoners, authority figures and ordinary folk…..people we can all identify with.
People met Jesus in all sorts of different situations.
Some in the most challenging times in their lives, in the darkest of time, when all hope appeared to have gone. Some seemed to have it all and thought they were doing fine..life was just great. Some knew there was more..they were searching. Others just “happened” to encounter Jesus as they went about their daily work or tasks..moments that became life changing encounters. Some had been waiting for him for a long, long time..never giving up hope that they would see him. Some had been searching for him all their lives.
Encountering Jesus challenges people, changes people. Jesus gives everyone a chance to respond to Him.
In this series, we will have some wonderful guests posts from fellow bloggers and friends who have written about such encounters…the thief on the cross, the disciple Peter, the woman at the well, Anna,Simeon, the shepherds and many more.
I wanted to write this series because I was reminded when I read the story of the woman meeting Jesus at the well that we all need a personal encounter with Jesus.
We can read about Jesus, we can hear about Jesus from others but as the crowds said to the woman at the well who told them of her meeting with Jesus:
“We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Saviour of the world.’ John 4.42
These people heard the good news about Jesus second hand from the woman. They received it and wanted to find out more so they went to see and hear Jesus for themselves. That changed everything.
Jesus is as alive today as he was when He walked amongst us. He is the living God and we can all still encounter Him and His loving grace and mercy today through the witness and power of the Holy Spirit.
I pray that in this season we will all discover and encounter Jesus afresh for ourselves, whether for the very first time..or in coming again to the source of truth and life.
If you are inspired to share a life changing encounter with Jesus or want to write a post for this series then please contact me through my contact information on my website. Let’s share the good news together.
Have a blessed day my friends.
