Mmmmm. The smell of fresh bread straight from the oven. Is there anything better? The smell itself gets our tastebuds working and brings an anticipation of the delights ahead of us. One of my earliest memories of my childhood in Scotland was being sent out for the “morning rolls” – bringing them home, baked fresh for our breakfast. Delicious and satisfying. A great start to the day ahead.
The beauty of our personal relationship with Jesus is that we can have fresh bread to feed our soul and spirit every day. We are blessed with the privilege of access to our Father in heaven through Jesus, yet too often we are living off stale bread or crumbs from the table from lack of intimacy with Jesus.
I know how easy it is to be feeding my flesh and neglect reading our bibles, prayer and fellowship. We can fall into the trap that “grab and go” will suffice – a quick prayer here and there- but it’s not enough for us to grow and mature and to have reserves to draw on in times of trouble and difficulty which surely come.
We would not from choice neglect to feed ourselves or purposely starve ourselves of food, but yet too often we starve ourselves spiritually.
There is a banqueting table which Jesus invites us each one of us to daily to give us all we need for living life in service of Him. To live daily in the freedom that He gives us, guilt free, fully equipped for the day ahead so we can overcome the flesh and walk in the spirit, rooted and built up in Him.
Come, let’s enjoy that fresh bread today.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Rev.3.20 NKJV

We would not choose to starve ourselves but do it so often Spiritual- oof that one convicts. It is easy to give in but it takes discipline and intention to stick to feeding ourselves with the bread of life.
A lovely reminder Nicola.

You’re so right Manu. I’ve had a series of prompts from the Lord about this recently so it’s on my heart at the moment. It’s good to encourage each other.

Very true Nicola, this world always leads us to the fast food options…and as we know such food is not always healthy. His Bread is always good, fresh and free from additives!

You had me at fresh bread! Then your post got even better with the Truth of Jesus being the best fresh bread we’d ever want or need!

Your post makes me think of the times in scripture where it says Jesus often withdrew to lonely places to pray—often early in the morning. Clearly, He valued fellowship with His Father; as should we. Thank you for this encouraging word!

Amen.
Easy to starve ourselves when there is abundance.
A good reminder, thankyou.

Love this!
So tasty like freshly baked bread. And yes, Nicola, the aroma wafting through the early morning when growing up, it was my task to buy our daily bread in our local bakery.
Thank you. You inspired me for my homily.
God bless!
