Mmmmm. The smell of fresh bread straight from the oven. Is there anything better? The smell itself gets our tastebuds working and brings an anticipation of the delights ahead of us. One of my earliest memories of my childhood in Scotland was being sent out for the “morning rolls” – bringing them home, baked fresh for our breakfast. Delicious and satisfying. A great start to the day ahead.
The beauty of our personal relationship with Jesus is that we can have fresh bread to feed our soul and spirit every day. We are blessed with the privilege of access to our Father in heaven through Jesus, yet too often we are living off stale bread or crumbs from the table from lack of intimacy with Jesus.
I know how easy it is to be feeding my flesh and neglect reading our bibles, prayer and fellowship. We can fall into the trap that “grab and go” will suffice – a quick prayer here and there- but it’s not enough for us to grow and mature and to have reserves to draw on in times of trouble and difficulty which surely come.
We would not from choice neglect to feed ourselves or purposely starve ourselves of food, but yet too often we starve ourselves spiritually.
There is a banqueting table which Jesus invites us each one of us to daily to give us all we need for living life in service of Him. To live daily in the freedom that He gives us, guilt free, fully equipped for the day ahead so we can overcome the flesh and walk in the spirit, rooted and built up in Him.
Come, let’s enjoy that fresh bread today.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Rev.3.20 NKJV
