This week at church we did something different. Our Pastor asked us to share our “life verses” or some people call them their “north star verses”. They are verses from the Bible that have guided, helped, encouraged and shaped your walk with the Lord. They can be bible verses that have been lifelines in times of trouble.
Our Pastor invited people forward and there was soon a queue of people eager to share. They read their bible verses and shared why those bible verses were so important to them. Some were able to recite long passages of Scripture which they had memorised.
It was so inspiring and touching to hear these verses and the testimonies. Do you have a life verse? If so, I would love to hear it and why it’s important to you. Please share in the comments section below.
My life verses are from Proverbs 3:5
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him,and he will make your paths straight.”
These verses give me confidence in God, who cares for me and guides me in the right way. When I am unsure then I remember these verses and declare my trust in Him and submit the circumstances or decision to the Lord.
I took the opportunity on Sunday to share my Dad’s life verses which he shared frequently with us. They had a profound influence on me because they taught me the importance of worship and the intimacy of relationship that the Lord desires with each of us.
My Dad’s life verse was from Psalm 84 verse 10. He recited this passage of Scripture often especially when he had his first stroke and was so ill.
“Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked”
In sharing with others our life verses then we also help disciple others by showing the importance of God’s Word in our lives and how it shapes us. We show that God’s Word is living, active and powerful.
I look forward to reading the comments and your life verses.
Have a blessed day my friends.

My personal verse –
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5-6
Our family verse –
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” – Joshua 24:15

What a beautiful idea Nichola, sharing life verses is such an affirmative way to share our faith in God and His Word. My favourite is Psalm 27 which I inherited from my grandmother who played a major part in sowing gospel seeds in my life. I share the great first and last verses here:
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the defense of my life;
Whom shall I dread?
— Psalm 27:1
Wait for the Lord;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the Lord.
— Psalm 27:14

How beautiful Alan that those verses were inspired from your Grandmother. The Psalms are a rich treasure chest. I love reading and meditating on them. Psalm 27 is a great one. Verse 14 and it’s exhortation to Be strong and wait on the Lord. Amen 🙏

Yet I am always with you;you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel,and afterwards you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you?And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail,but God is the strength of my heartand my portion for ever.
Thank you for sharing those verses. Yet! Love it

Great post and I love the verse you shared form proverbs, this is one of the top verses of my life! The life verse I will share was given before I moved to Portugal, it’s Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This has been a great encouragement for me. God bless 🥰

Hi Dean – those are such encouraging bible verses. Moving to Portugal must have been a big step into the unknown and knowing God is with you wherever you go what a comfort.

My late dad’s verse was “I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13) and I have the spiritual inheritance of seeing my dad reading the bible every day and living it; and my top life verse is “Abide in Me, and I in you” (John 15:4) plus far too many more to be able to write in your comment section! but just this morning in my “coffee with Jesus” devotional time in the Word, I wrote down ” I rejoice, for I know that through prayer and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, everything turns out…with eager expectation and hope…with full courage now as always Christ honored in my body…convinced…progressing and joy in faith…standing firm in one Spirit and one Mind…not frightened in anything…participating in the Spirit…shining as lights in the midst of a crooked, corrupted, perverted generation, in the world…Holding fast the Word of Life…rejoicing and glad…worshiping God in Spirit and glorying in Christ Jesus…holding true to what I have attained in Christ…Keeping my heart and mind in Christ…learning, receiving, seeing, hearing, doing…revived…every need supplied by my God according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (paraphrase of Philippians 1:19-4:19) and so much more. O how I love the Word and the Spirit of God our Abba Father!

Oh that sounds like such a lovely service. The verse that immediately came to mind is 2 Timothy 1:7 -“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” It is the one my Mom gave me as a teenager. When I was thirteen I left the safe, small, tight-knit Mennonite school I had always attended for K-8 for our much, much larger public high school. Every morning my Mom would pray with me before I headed out the door for the bus and remind me of this verse. Hanging on to that verse, I knew Jesus was right there with me as I navigated my new environment.

Yes, it was a lovely service. Different from the usual agenda and powerful hearing the Word of God being publicly declared. That’s the power of the Word in our lives isn’t it Beth. Thank you for your testimony. Bless you.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
When my daughter was serving the Lord in Africa for 6 months, I feared for her safety. I clung to this promise. Sure enough, God gave me that peace that passes understanding.

Thank you Cindy for sharing those verses and your testimony. I often think of peace as being this feeling but peace is actively guarding the door to my heart and mind against the anxious thoughts.

Mine is Ephesians 6:13, “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” In my minds eye I see a warrior – battle weary and scarred but on his feet, sword drawn, ready to face whatever comes next.
