When God revealed himself to Moses at the burning bush, Moses quite naturally was awestruck and wanted to know who was speaking to him and how could a bush burn but not be consumed. Moses was given a specific assignment by God. God was sending him back to Egypt to God’s people, the Israelites with a message. Moses wanted to know how the children of Israel would believe that Moses was really sent to them by their God. The God who had made a covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. What was Moses’ intro. Who was sending him. I come in the Name of…….?
God introduced himself to Moses as “ I AM” which we closely translate as JEHOVAH, YAHWEH or YHWH. A name which appears over 6000 times in the Old Testament according to the notes in my bible.
Moses was simply to say that “I AM” had sent him.
Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?” And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’ Exodus 3:13-15
To my simple mind, I understand this to mean God is everything and God is in everything. God is eternal. He is in my past, my present and my future. There is nowhere that God does not exist and there is nothing hidden from His gaze. He is all knowing.
I AM is the answer.
When we call out to God in prayer He answers “I am here”. When We seek Him in prayer, we find him. I AM is waiting. God is everything we need. I AM is all sufficient for us.
God revealed himself to Moses as a HOLY GOD. He tells Moses to take off his shoes because Moses is standing on holy ground. Where God presences himself is holy. It is a sacred and a consecrated place. Jesus is our High Priest who by His blood has cleansed and purified us so that we are now a Holy people unto God.
“For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another— He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation” Hebrews 9:24-28
God desires us to be holy in our conduct as His Holy people. As we meditate on God’s holiness let us take time to let the Holy Spirit search our hearts and reveal any sin which needs to be repented over. We can then receive God’s forgiveness through our faith in the blood of Jesus Christ which cleanses us from all unrighteousness.
Our prayer for today:
Father in heaven, thank you that you have revealed your name to us. That you are Jehovah, the I AM. You are the everlasting God who has always been and will be forevermore. You hear us when we call to you. You are all we need. You alone have the answers. We declare you are a holy God. Holy, holy, holy is your name. You alone are worthy of all praise and worship and glory. Thank you that you sent Jesus to save us and redeem us by His precious blood and that we are now righteous in your sight. Show us Lord by your Holy Spirit where there is any unconfessed sin in our lives so that we can repent and receive forgiveness. Thank you for your great love and mercies which are new every morning, Thank you that we can come boldly into your presence because of Jesus our High Priest. Amen
