#TestimonyTuesday – God’s Provision

When I was growing up I was fortunate that my Dad taught me about how to manage my finances and honouring God with my finances. He taught me about being generous and supportive of God’s work, helping those in need and giving on biblical principles.

When I received my first pay packet Dad helped me to allocate my wages. God first, then paying for my “keep” to Mum and Dad, saving a bit and spending a bit. I was living at home so didn’t have any other expenses back then. Dad always encouraged a balance of saving and spending. He wasn’t against credit cards but he would always say that you shouldn’t overstretch yourself. If you couldn’t afford something straight away then wait and save for it. If you still wanted it by the time you’d saved for it then great, but otherwise it might have been an impulse buy, you were saved from.

Money was often tight in our house growing up and we certainly weren’t well off but we weren’t poor either. We always had food on the table. We lived with my Nan for a while when we didn’t have a house but we still had a roof over our heads. Quite often I couldn’t go on school trips because we didn’t have the money for luxuries. I didn’t go to University when the opportunity came because I needed to get a job at 18. My dad worked shifts in a factory and if there was no overtime then money was very tight but Dad was always generous with what little there was. He believed that God would always provide and God certainly did provide for our needs.

When the time came for me to have my own home and be responsible for a household budget then Dad’s financial advice was something I relied on. I remember that as I advanced in my career as a lawyer (God blessed me indeed to be able to qualify as a lawyer which is a testimony for another day) and my salary increased, there was a temptation to cut back on my giving. Ridiculous really as I was better off than I had ever been but the temptation was there. In having more than I had ever dreamed possible there was a subtle trap of wanting to give less out of my increase…..the very increase God had blessed me with.

I remember a specific time when the Lord taught me to trust Him with our finances. I had qualified as a lawyer and then a year later became pregnant with our first child. Maternity pay was not as generous then as it is now and we were concerned how we would manage to pay our mortgage, bills etc, without my salary. We were arranging overdraft facilities and loans to see us through this time. It was then that I felt prompted by the Lord to give 3 amounts of money to 3 different Christian ministries. It was a large amount and more than I had ever given before but I felt this conviction in my heart that this was what the Lord wanted.

I prayed and asked the Lord that if I was right then my husband would agree straight away. My husband wasn’t a Christian so this was going to be a big ask. I can recall so clearly being really nervous asking my husband. I plucked up courage and asked and he said yes, straight away. I thought he hadn’t heard me so asked him again and again, he said yes. I was amazed and so thankful because I believe the Lord had prepared his heart.

So, I gave the gifts and it was only months later that I realised that we were not using our overdraft facility. I cannot explain it or how it happened but it did. We didn’t receive a large unexpected financial gift or anything like that but during this time we were able to manage our finances so much better than before. Our money seemed to be going a lot further than before. God was blessing us indeed and His provision was sustaining us. We went through my whole period of maternity leave without using our overdraft or going into debt. God was faithful.

We are familiar with these verses I am sure from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians but it is good to remind ourselves again of these encouraging words from God’s Word.

Remember this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: ‘They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures for ever.’ Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”

Are you Hungry? Feed on Him

I shared a vision of Jesus that I had on Saturday in my post Fresh Bread and this reminded me of another word which I had received from the Lord in 2018. I wanted to share the post again because of what the Lord has been impressing on me recently. I hope it blesses you.

This is what I heard the Lord Jesus say to me:

“I am the bread of Life.   Whoever eats and drinks of Me will never hunger and thirst again.

Some of My people are happy to feed on the crumbs from the table and the drips of My presence.  I died so that they could feast on Me.

There is everything laid up in My Kingdom -the resources of heaven which are available to My people if they would only believe.”

I believe that the The Lord is saying- stop feeding on the crumbs and being satisfied with those.   There is so much more of Me available says the Lord.  Come and feast at My table.  Realise that you are hungry.  Stir up the hunger within you and do not be satisfied with the crumbs.

Come and feast at My table says the Lord.

I have set a banqueting table before you – Come and eat and drink.  There is everything available in Me.

Why do you eat things which cannot satisfy you?  Why do you drink things which cannot satisfy you?   Eat and drink of Me.  The fullness of Me.

Every part of Me is available to you.  My love, My truth, My grace, My Freedom, My power, My Authority.  It is all freely available to you.   As you freely receive then freely give.   Give without limits – pressed down abundant giving – for out of giving more then more can be received and overflow.

Let the oil of My presence freely flow through you.  The oil comes from refining through My spirit.  Let Me flow through you.  Do not turn the tap off.   Blessings to all My children, Blessings.

The words of Isaiah 55 came to mind.

Ho Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters: Any of you who have no money, Come buy and eat.  Yes come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.  Why do you spend money for what is not bread and your wages for what does not satisfy.  Listen carefully to Me and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance.”

I remember our Pastor talking about the nativity scene and what did we see when we looked at the picture.   He saw Jesus lying in the manger and this was significant to him.  He said Jesus is in the manger for a reason.

The manger was the place of feeding for the animals- the French word “manger” means to eat and comes from the same root word.   Jesus is in the manger because He is our spiritual bread and we all need to feed on Christ.   He is our spiritual food.   He is the gift of God freely given to us.

Have a blessed day my friends.

In praise of the Community Pantry

This blog post was a godly and timely reminder to me of how people in other nations are being badly impacted and suffering, not just through the COVID pandemic, but because of other injustices, corruption and disasters which have affected them. We, as Christians, are one body in Christ and when one part of our body suffers then we too suffer with them. Let us be awake to the sufferings of others around the world and ask the Lord to show us the ways that we can help practically and support people in need. Letting them know that we are with them in their sufferings.

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

The Risen Son Jesus -In service of the King

The Lord spoke this word to my spirit this morning.   I pray that it blesses, encourages and challenges you as it does me:

“Thus says the Son – For I came into the world and you did not recognise me because you chose to be wilfully blind, but when I come again in all My glory with My heavenly army with me then all eyes will see and all will know that I am Jesus – He that was crucified and rose again.

None will be able to deny it.  Some may choose to rebel against Me and choose the wicked deceiver but the choice will be theirs to make.   There will be no excuses.  There will be no deniers on that day for all will see My glory & My power.

Trust in Me.   All you who have put your trust and faith in My death & resurrection for I will not disappoint you.

I will raise each one to life who has believed in Me.  They will be honoured and they will share in My glory for it pleases Me to share My glory and My life with those who love me.

I will give gifts to all those who have served Me with a true heart.   Not the hypocrites and not the fame seekers.

For I will test all men’s works.   Those works that remain after the fire will receive a reward but for everything burned up they will suffer loss.

For I am a righteous and true judge.  I am fair in all I do.   Justice goes forth from My throne for nothing is hidden from My eyes.

All will be laid bare before My sight & before the sight of everyone from the kings of the earth to the lowest – All will stand before My throne & receive from Me.

Some will pretend and make excuses for the things that they have done, but I will tell them to depart from Me because they are wicked, serving only themselves and not the one true King.

Repent My people of your selfish ambitions & serve Me with humility, kindness & love for as much as I gave for you out of My heart, then so much I ask from you to be poured out for Me.

I give you life in all its fullness so that you can give to others.

Each one of My followers has something to give.  No-one is empty handed in My kingdom for if you ask of Me then you will receive.

Ask of Me and I will open up the treasures of heaven to pour into your hands.  A good measure pressed down & overflowing.   Give as it is given to you and hold nothing back, especially in these days when you have the opportunity to do much good and show much love to those in need.

Bless you My children.   One day I will look into your eyes and you will look into mine and you will truly understand the sacrifice which I made for each one of you.

It was worth it and I saw what My Father had in mind from the foundation of the earth so I was pleased to offer Myself as a sacrifice for you because it is worth it to My father and it is worth it to Me.

All honour & glory belongs to the One who sits on the throne forever and ever, Amen.
