Biscuits 🍪

You’ll be pleased to know this isn’t a post about giving up biscuits (cookies) for Lent but rather about the unusual ways God sometimes gets our attention and speaks to us about big things.

I love the fact that the Lord loves to engage with us. He speak to our hearts and sometimes brings a big thing to reflect on but in an engaging and fun way. This happened to me the other night.

My friends and I were having a our weekly chat/pray/bible study over WhatsApp and we took 5 minutes out to listen to a worship song and ask the Lord to speak to us. The word I heard in my spirit was “Biscuits”. Initially, I was like “Lord really? are you teasing me?”Biscuits had nothing to do with what we had been talking about and I wasn’t even thinking about biscuits. Either this was a completely random thought crossing my mind or a word spoken to me by the Lord.

I said Lord -“You want me to share the word “Biscuits” when we all come back together”. In my mind I was already thinking that my friends will think what!! She’s lost it, lockdown has finally tipped her over the edge. However, that still small voice said again “Biscuits”..and “Just you wait and see”….

Ok, so when we came back together to share what we believed the Lord has spoken to our hearts, I just said “Biscuits”. My friends laughed but then asked if I had anymore from the Lord to which I replied .”No, just Biscuits.”

My friend Heather (bless her) had the key though to unlock my word “Biscuits” and interpret what the Lord was saying.

She shared that when I said “Biscuits” she was immediately reminded of a word the Lord had given her about Expectation. Heather has a dog Lola who like all dogs loves Biscuits. Whenever Heather takes her for a walk, Lola knows that in Heather’s pocket there are biscuits. She expects to receive a biscuit when Heather reaches in her pocket and she certainly expects to receive a biscuit on her walk. She will sit down and stare at Heather’s pocket knowing that there are good treats to be had. She just has to patiently wait and Heather will give her a biscuit. The Lord challenged Heather on her walk about whether she also expects to receive good things from God and also what her expectation is of God. Is He a BIG, BIG, BIG God to her?

If you have read some of my recent posts on No bargain basement, Good Gifts and Open Sesame that this also follows a theme that God has been speaking to me about recently. God has been encouraging us to Ask him and Expect to receive good gifts from our Father in Heaven. Yet again, God is finding another way to speak to our hearts and gently challenge us by asking us “What is your expectation of Me.”?

I pray that we will all prayerfully consider this question and if our expectation of God is wrong that we will allow Him to show us and bring us into a right expectation of Him. The Lord is so gracious in how He speaks to our hearts. I am reminded of the word I shared some time ago about Expectation and have posted the link below in case you have not read it before.

Expectation – What is my expectation

I pray you have a blessed day and now I’m off to have a cup of tea and a biscuit x

Surrounded by God

In the night I awoke with these verses from Psalm 91 in my thoughts and immediately felt a sense of God’s peace and assurance that His arm of protection was shielding me as I was nestled in a place of security. As a mother hen gathers her chicks underneath her for warmth and protection so was this sense of Gods love surrounding me.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:1-2 – https://www.biblegateway

There is a promise in these verses that when we abide in God (as Jesus encourages us to do) that we can rest (not be anxious or worried) even when the storm is raging around us and trust Him. His presence surrounds us in all circumstances and when we are resting and sleeping God is working on our behalf and He watches over us.

I am reminded of the song by Michael W Smith called Surrounded (Fight My Battles)

The Word Says
“For the spirit of heaviness”
“Put on the garment of praise”
That’s how we fight our battles (yeah)This is how I fight my battles
This is how I fight my battles
This is how I fight my battles
(What we’re doing tonight)
This is how I fight my battles
(Just when you think you’re lost)It may look like I’m surrounded
But I’m surrounded by You (hey)

It may look like I’m surrounded
But I’m surrounded by You
It may look like I’m surrounded
But I’m surrounded by You
It may look like I’m surrounded
But I’m surrounded by You

This is how I fight my battles

When things are at their worst. If you are feeling oppressed and surrounded by trouble, anxiety on all sides then God wants to encourage you today that He is surrounding you with His love and wants you to rest in Him. Give your worries to Him and receive God’s peace in exchange.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

May God bless you today 😊🙏

No bargain basement in God

Following on from this week’s post about the good gifts that God has for His Saints, I am going to share a picture which my friend Deb received which may bring some further insight.

Deb had a picture of a very large retail store which was stocked full of loads of items on the shelves. There were rows and rows of shelves packed full of lovely items as far as she could see and she knew she could pick absolutely anything in the store as a gift from God. Instead of choosing something from the shelves though she headed down to the bargain basement to the cheap, reduced items.

She suddenly asked herself what was she doing. Why when she could have anything in the store was she headed down there to the bargain basement. Why was she settling for less than the best God was offering her? This picture speaks of self-worth and believing that we are not deserving of God’s best gifts. We settle for the crumbs from His banqueting table rather than take our seat at the table and enjoy the feast He provides for us.

Does this picture strike a chord? Do you struggle to accept the best that God wants for you. Some of God’s children don’t believe that they are worthy to receive such good gifts and blessings from God. The Lord is saying – Yes you are. He wants you to have His best. You are His child. It’s time for us to get out of the bargain basement mentality.

We as God’s children are worth so much more than the items left in the bargain basement. God has the best in store (excuse the pun) for His children. Let us change our mindsets and bring them into alignment with God’s thinking. He is not a bargain basement God. He has the best in store for you.

Good gifts from our Father in Heaven

Hi all, my friend, Heather sent me these encouraging words today which I want to share with you too. I hope you are blessed.

I awoke this morning with 2 scriptures which came to my mind quite clearly. The first one was 1 Corinthians 2 verse 9:

No eye has seen, no ear heard or no mind can conceive what the Lord has prepared for those who love Him”

The second scripture was Psalm 34 v 8:

Come taste and see that the Lord is good”

I believe the Lord wants us to come so much deeper in. We are not to be just spectators looking in at the window of some great mansion or palace and wondering what it would be like to live there. God wants us to come in and take our place at the table set for us with our name on. There is a place for each one of us.

I was then prompted to read Numbers 13. These verses speak about the land flowing with milk and honey which God had promised His people, the Israelites (“the Promised Land”). And they didn’t want to go in there!!

Why I asked of the Lord. Why didn’t they go in and take what you had promised was theirs. The Lord said that apart from the fear, (there were big giants who lived there) there was an attitude of “I don’t need or even deserve this goodness” in the people. Even worse there was “I’m ok where I am” and “I’ll just settle for things as they are”.

In Numbers chapter 14 v 11 we read that the Lord is grieved or even offended by these thoughts.

If you or I had beautiful gifts to give someone and they were rejected. Would we also not feel hurt?

The Lord was showing the people a land flowing with milk and honey ( all good things) which was there for them to possess. God is saying the same to us. We do have to go in and take possession of it ( Numbers 13 v 30).

Let’s not be afraid or disheartened or settle for less than God has for us and wants to give us. Let us not grieve the Lord by not receiving what He has for us. Let us press in to take possession of all that God wants to give us.

We will have battles to overcome but the Lord promised He is with us.
Blessings in Jesus name x

A Covering of Love

When Adam and Eve sinned and stepped outside of God’s glory, God made a covering of animal skins for them because their nakedness made them vulnerable to their changed environment. They had tried to cover themselves with fig leaves but God knew that fig leaves alone would not give them enough covering for warmth and protection.

The ground itself was now cursed because of their sin and disobedience and would bring forth thorns. God gave them a covering to protect them when they left the Garden of Eden and went into that new hostile environment. God knew that Adam and Eve would still need His continued protection. He covered them with His love.

God does the same for us. He covers us with His love. He covers our shame and our sins are covered and washed away forever by the blood of Jesus. An animal had to first die to provide the skins to cover Adam and Eve. Jesus also had to die on the cross as a sacrifice for us to cover our sins. He was the lamb of God who was sacrificed for us. His blood covers us.

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”John 1:29

“For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors” Isaiah 53:12

Through prayer & love in action we too can also be a covering of love and support for each other. In the body of believers, our pastors and shepherds are a covering for us. We are so blessed to have good shepherds over us. They are responsible for teaching, discipling, supporting and leading us and accountable to God for us. What a responsibility they have. Let us pray for God’s protection, strength, wisdom and grace to cover them.

Families also cover each other. A husband covers his wife. He is to cover her with the same love which Christ has for His church. This is why God’s heart is for widows who have no husband’s covering and He becomes their covering instead. He becomes a husband to them.

For your Maker is your husband — the Lord Almighty is his name— the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth. Isaiah 54:5

Parents cover their children with love until it is time for them to step out from under that covering and mature and grow. This is why Gods heart is also for orphans who have no one to parent them. He calls to others to adopt them into their families as God has adopted us as sons and daughters into His family. His love is over them.

We can consider who we are covering today and who is covering us. We cover in love those who God has given and entrusted to us. We cover our brothers and sisters in Christ. When one part of the body suffers the rest suffers with it. We should not expose or cause pain to anyone but love one another in accordance with Gods teaching. We must not be triumphant over those who have erred or wandered from the truth but in a spirit of gentleness seek to restore them. Pull them back from the fire. Let us cover each other with love. Not a love that excuses or hides bad behaviour or sin but a love that also disciplines and corrects. We do not cover sin but we rather expose the works of darkness in the right and Godly way. Speaking the truth in love.

Jesus took our shame and nailed it to His cross. We are all saved by His grace lest any of us should boast. Our hope and assurance is in Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith. Praise God. Let us be holy in all our conduct as He is Holy.

Blessing to you this day in Jesus precious name.

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves” Genesis 3:7

The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. Genesis 3:21

“Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.” Romans 4:7-8

My offenses will be sealed up in a bag; you will cover over my sin.
Job 14:17

My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins. James 5:19-20

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8
