Worship in the Wilderness..#Lent 2026

The Lent series of devotionals I am reading talked of worshipping in the wilderness today.

The wilderness is a hard and lonely place to worship but it’s there in the wilderness we can discover who or what is consuming our thoughts.

We ask the question of ourselves in that place in this season of Lent.

Who or what am I truly worshipping?

Who or what is truly sitting on the throne of my heart?

Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.” Matthew‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬, ‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The final temptation that Satan tried was to get Jesus to worship him by showing him the wealth, power and riches of this earth.

Jesus rebuked satan and showed us the key to overcoming the enemies’ temptations of this world…keep our heart’s worship and our desires fully on God.

God alone is the One who is worthy of all our worship and the One we should serve.

Not ourselves.

Not our selfish desires.

Not the temporary things of this world.

Jesus is our example of worshipping in the wilderness and serving God’s purposes..not my will but yours be done…with a true heart and completely selflessly.

We too can worship in the wilderness.

Lent is a season of discovery if we allow our hearts to be challenged by His Spirit.

Lord as we draw near to you, we know you will draw near to us.

Refine us, Refresh us, Restore and Re-align us we pray in this season. 🙏

Blessings Nicola. Our faith encourages each of us to join others in a time of worship in the wilderness that will open ourselves to journey with Jesus. For myself, I am embracing moments of silence filled with prayer.

Interesting that before the beginning of Jesus’ ministry there was the voice of one crying in the wilderness and people cane from all around to repent and be baptized by John
