To serve..

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others” Philippians 2 3-4

The New Year is always a good time to pause and reflect.

A time of re-assessing.

Serving others is an opportunity to grow in our faith by expressing our obedience to God and growing in love for others as we think of the interests of others above our own.

Acts of service also strengthen the bonds of fellowship and help us to grow.

I was approached yesterday after our church meeting and asked by a member how they could help this year.

I suggested a few things we needed help with, which I could then see by their expression, were not things they particularly wanted or felt they could do.

However, they then surprised me by saying yes. Although what I suggested was out of their comfort zone and new for them, they felt the nudge of the Holy Spirit to take that step and agree.

How might the Lord be prompting you to serve Him and others in this coming year.

Don’t be afraid to take that step of faith into the unknown. The Holy Spirit will enable you through His strength to serve in ways you had not considered possible.

If that sounds a bit scary then start small. I started serving by making the tea at the church service. Every little bit makes a difference when serving others.

Father God open our eyes and hearts to the opportunities each day to serve others. Show us where you want us to serve you. Amen 🙏

Serving others is certainly serving God, all the more reason to be open to all opportunities. In our wee church some of us wear many hats to make sure things are getting done. God bless you today sister 🙏

Yes Alan I can definitely understand that wearing of many hats when there are fewer hands although even in larger congregations the same can still happen. The same few doing the most.

I can understand that from my visits to big churches, and seeing the same few people out of the many doing all the serving. I find that heartening but also sad.
