Mary’s Song..

In Luke 1, we read of 2 miraculous births both of which are announced by an angel of the Lord, Gabriel sent by God.

The first is miraculous as it is a longed for child to a barren couple, Zacharias and Elizabeth who we are told have been praying for a child but are now well advanced in years.

John is the longed for answer to their prayers.

The second is miraculous in that it is the birth of the son of God, Jesus the Saviour of the world to a virgin named Mary.

Jesus is the fulfilment of many prophecies given about the coming Messiah.

The news of the coming miracles was received differently by each.

Zacharias doubted that it was possible given their old age…perhaps thinking their opportunity to be parents was long gone.

The answer to their prayers was too late in coming.

Mary believed though and wanted to know how God would bring this to pass.

The Angel encouraged Mary with these words “For with God nothing will be impossible

Mary’s response is simple obedience..”Here I am let it be according to your words.”

Later Mary visits Elizabeth and this song is her response to God’s amazing work.

“And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭1‬:‭46‬-‭55‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

May our response to God’s works and calls to us be like Mary’s in obedience and believing that with God all things are possible.

When God answers yes to our prayers the answer will come in the perfect time.

God has done, is doing and will do great things for us, His children.

The age of miracles and signs and wonders has not passed.

Like Zacharias we might not recognise the timing and the answer straight away but like Zacharias, we will see the answer with our own eyes when answers are birthed in front of our eyes.

To God be the glory.

May we be coming into the season of the answering of prayer, of miracles being birthed and the sound of rejoicing and singing just like Mary’s song.
