Road ahead closed..

You are driving your planned route and suddenly there’s a road sign “Road ahead closed” and “Follow the diversion”.

What to do.

The problem is the sign doesn’t specify which road ahead is closed so you need to make a quick decision.

Do we:

Follow the diversion or stick to the plan.

This happened to me a few months ago. I was driving to speak at a breakfast about an hour away. I had planned my route in advance and was taking some friends.

We reached the main road junction to turn left and there was the sign. Telling us that the road ahead was closed and to detour. The problem was the diversion was going to take us way out of our planned route and we would be late.

We decided to follow the planned route. We weren’t the only cars to do so either, the car in front did but many others turned off.

As we drove along, more and more road signs appeared..road ahead closed..follow diversion and directing us to turn off.

These signs were relentless and we were starting to worry. If we had to turn back now we would really be late and possibly lost.

However, the car in front kept going and we did too..some other cars behind turned off at various opportunities to follow the diversion signs.

We reached another crossroads. Again, the sign said “Road ahead closed..follow diversion”..the car in front stopped this time, hesitated for a bit but then drove on. We decided to do the same and followed.

We kept following this car until the next junction..you guessed it “Road ahead closed…Follow the diversion”.

Again, the car drove on so we did too.

We eventually came to the actual road ahead which was closed….it was a road going the other way completely!

Our road was not the road that was closed at all.

Our road ahead was fully open and it was actually only part of the road going one way that was closed. It didn’t affect our route.

Those road signs were very misleading and without the car in front to follow, we may well have lost our nerve and stopped following our planned route.

Life can be like that..there’s lots of people who will tell us that there’s no way through for us and we need to divert but if God has opened the way, then it’s open. Don’t be diverted off the path that God has put us on.

Now on the way back guess what. Those signs appeared again to divert us but having driven the route already we knew where the road block was so we drove on and ignored those signs and.…this time someone followed us.

Good word, Nicola. Love that on the way back you got to guide someone else to stick to that route.

Always trust the path God has set us on, and not listen to others giving us “proper directions.” It is always the best way to go!

So important to know where you are going and the route to take. When you listen to Holy Spirit, you will always reach the destination, without being diverted.
