There was a knock on the door. It was about 9.30 at night. We weren’t expecting anyone as we had only just finished moving daughter’s stuff into her new student house. It was an old terraced house in a different and unfamiliar area of the city to her and us. A maze of those old terraced houses with back alleys.
“Is that your car” asked the man standing at the door. Oh no I thought, we’ve already upset one of the neighbours by parking in their space. “Yes” we replied tentatively ..””you”ll need one of these then” he said producing a parking permit and explaining that without a resident’s permit we would get a hefty fine in the morning. He went on to say that he lived a couple of doors down and if we needed anything to let him know. We thanked him and then he disappeared into the night.
Sure enough early next morning the traffic warden was about putting parking tickets on the cars….
A simple act of unwarranted kindness from a stranger..
